Ground Beef Recalled for E. coli Contamination

American Foods Group announced a recall of nearly 96,000 pounds of various ground beef products that may have been contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a deadly bacterium.

E. coli O157:H7 can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration.

The Illinois Department of Public Health discovered the problem during an investigation after receiving two reports of illness. The company issued a recall after authorities contacted them.

The recalled beef products have an establishment number of "Est. 18076" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The recalled burgers were produced on October 10, 2007.

Each shipping label bears the establishment number "Est. 18076" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The tainted burgers were sold distributed to retail establishments and distributors in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Virginia.

• "BEEF SIRLOIN, FINE GROUND 90/10." Product code "66000."

• "BEEF, FINE GROUND 80/20." Product code "66400."

• "BEEF, FINE GROUND 75/25." Product code "19900."

• "BEEF, FINE GROUND 73/27." Product code "20100."

• "BEEF CHUCK, FINE GROUND 82/18." Product code "20600."

• "CHOP BEEF STEAK, FINE GRIND "86/14." Product code "30000."

• "BEEF SIRLOIN, FINE GROUND 92/08." Product code "30400."

• "BEEF ROUND, FINE GROUND 87/13." Product code "30200."

• "BEEF, FINE GROUND 80/20." Product code "30700."

• "BEEF CHUCK, FINE GROUND 82/18." Product code "31400."
