4 Injured, 2 Killed in Car Crash

A two vehicle accident, Monday, claimed two lives and left four others injured.

There have been 78 Alabama traffic fatalities reported in 2008 so far this year. At this time in 2007, there were 95 reported accidents.

Lawrence County Coroner's Office pronounced two men - 39, of Hartselle and 39, of Decatur - dead at the scene, according to Decatur State Troopers.

The driver, a man, 60, of Crane Hill and three others suffered injuries in the accident. They ere transported from the accident scene by Medflight.

The driver was listed in good condition at Huntsville Hospital. The other three passengers were listed in good condition and recovering.

The accident happened at the intersection of Alabama 157 and Alabama 36, just after 6 p.m. on Monday, when the vehicles collided. The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

One Teen killed, One Critically Injured in Car Accident

A Marbury High School student, 18, was killed in a car accident when his vehicle went into an intersection in front of an oncoming log truck, said the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

The passenger, a sophomore, 15, is in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery at Baptist Medical Center.

"It went through my mind that this can't be happening again," said Marbury High School Principal Don Hulin, who was one of the first on the scene. "There have been five Marbury students killed in accidents since 2006.

"I've been in the military, and I've seen dead folks before, but this is something you don't want to see -- a dead child. This one brought me to my knees. I feel like all these kids up here are my kids. You interact with them in the halls everyday. You get to know your students at Marbury."

They were good friends who often rode to school together. Grief counselors will be present at the school to help students deal with the tragedy.

Mobile Woman Killed in Car Accident

A Mobile woman, 27, died from injuries she suffered in a car accident, on Friday, when the car she was driving overturned.

The woman was ejected from her automobile, although authorities have confirmed she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, reported a spokesman for Saraland Police Department.

She was traveling alone in her Honda Accord when it flipped several times on her way home from her Mother's home at 6:40 p.m., on Friday. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

A rescue helicopter transported her to the University of South Alabama Medical Center where she was taken off of life support at 1 p.m., on Monday.

Belulah Woman Ejected From Vehicle; Dies Instantly

A car accident, Monday night, claimed the life of a Belulah woman, 44. Officials say the accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Lee Road 375.

The woman died instantly from head injuries she suffered when she apparently lost control of her car and was ejected from the vehicle.

The car tumbled from the force of the accident and landed on top of her, crushing her. She was pronounced dead by the Coroner at the scene of the accident.

She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was traveling alone. The accident is being investigated by Alabama State Troopers and Lee County Coroner's Office.

Bicyclist Suffers Life Threatening Injuries After Crashing with Car

A bicyclist suffered life threatening injuries in a car accident, Tuesday night, when his bike was struck by a car.

The man, 52, of Letohatchee, was said to be unconscious and unresponsive when officials arrived on the scene. He was transported by Air Evac to Baptist Hospital South for medical treatment. He is now listed in stable condition.

The man was hit by the car, on U.S. Highway 31, near Montgomery, according to authorities.

Many agencies responded to the accident scene including State Troopers, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and Pintala Fire Department.

The accident is being investigated, no further information is available at this time.

Christmas Day Car Accidents Claim Two Lives in Alabama

Two Alabama residents were killed in separate motor vehicle accidents in Escambia and Mobile counties on Christmas Day.

A man, 40, of Mobile county died in a one vehicle accident that troopers believe may have been alcohol related, while a woman, 60, of Repton died in a two-car crash on Interstate 65, according to troopers.

In the first accident the man was traveling west on Russell Road when his Ford F-150 veered off the road, striking several trees. He was not wearing a seatbelt and the impact of the crash ejected him from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are awaiting toxicology results.

Just 12 hours later a woman was killed in a two-car crash on I-65 when her Jeep Grand Cherokee collided with a Honda Accord, according to troopers. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the accord was not injured in the crash.

Troopers are investigating both crashes and no further information is readily available.

Geneva Man Killed in Car Crash

A car accident, on Tuesday, claimed the life of a Geneva man while also injuring three of his passengers, according to Alabama State Troopers.

The accident occurred on Geneva County Road 58 just after 8:10 pm, according to a news release by state troopers.

The accident involved a 1998 Ford F150 pickup truck and a 1995 Dodge Neon driven by a man, 39, of Geneva. The driver of the Neon was not injured in the crash.

The injured passengers traveling in the Ford pickup truck were transported to Wiregrass Hospital for medical treatment, according to an accident information report by state troopers. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Alabama State Troopers are currently investigating the accident for more information.

Car Accident Claims the Lives of Three High School Cheerleaders

A car accident, on Thursday, claimed the lives of three high school cheerleaders and injured four others on their way home from practice.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the two-way highway and struck a tree and went over an embankment. Officials say it appears the driver was distracted.

The Blount County coroner said, the girls were laughing and singing just moments prior to the accident happening. If you can imagine a bunch of kids in a car like that, it's not hard to understand," he said.

Hayden High School principal said he would always remember the girls' smiles and school spirit. The school lowered the flag to half-staff in memory of the girls as students hugged and cried on the way to class.

No charges have been filed and the accident is being investigated by officials.

Former University of Alabama Football Player Loses Wife and Four Children in Tragic Car Accident

Former University of Alabama football player, Siran Stacy, was involved in a horrific car accident, Tuesday, when a pickup truck struck the van he was driving.

Six people were tragically killed in the accident including his wife and four of his children, according to State Troopers. The driver of the pickup truck was also killed in the crash.

Stacy, 39, a star running back for Alabama during 1989-91, was listed in stable condition in surgical intensive care at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. He was the first pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1992 draft, but never carried the ball in the NFL.

According to troopers, the pickup truck was traveling on the wrong side of the four-lane road when it struck Stacy's van on the passenger side on U.S. 84. Stacy was stopped at a red light - when the light turned green he proceeded to cross the highway when he was struck by the pickup.

Investigators are unsure why the pickup truck was traveling in the wrong lane. The truck hit them broadside and t-boned them at the intersection.

Stacy's 3-year-old daughter, Shelly, was taken to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, which did not release her condition.

Byrd identified the victims as Stacy's wife, Ellen Stacy, 36; children Lequisa, 18, Bronson, 10, Sidney, 8, and Ellie, 2, all of Newton in southeast Alabama; and pickup driver Adam W. Wayman, 29, of Dothan.

National Teen Driver Safety Week

This week marks the first annual National Teen Driver Safety Week, a designation by the U.S. Congress to raise awareness of the causes of many teen motor vehicle accidents that result in injury or death.

Right now, vehicle crashes that involve teens are the leading cause of death for young people in our country. The sad facts are that more than 6,000 teens are killed in automobile crashes each year, and more than 40,000 are injured. Congress hopes to generate dialogue among teens and parents through this new National Teen Driver Safety Week.

Teen drivers should pay attention to their driving habits and take extra safety precautions, including:

Drive defensively and stay alert.
Do not talk or text on cellular phones while driving.
Do not operate iPods and PDAs while driving.
Do not drink and drive.
Do not shuttle around many friends in one car.
Do not play music so loudly that you can't hear horns or sirens.
